Thanks to your support and participation, our inaugural Sunday Streets Berkeley was a huge success! 40,000 people came out to enjoy a vibrant Shattuck Avenue filled with creativity, engagement, and possibility! Just imagine what Berkeley would be like if we could capture a bit of the energy from Sunday Streets Berkeley and build that into our everyday lives. Sunday Streets Berkeley brings to life many Livable Berkeley goals including Downtown Revitalization and urban sustainability - less cars and more people! Many of you have asked, “When are we having Sunday Streets Berkeley again?" We believe Sunday Streets Berkeley is a powerful (and fun!) way to create civic engagement in community sustainability and we want to make it happen again in 2013! Your voice is important. Financial support from the City of Berkeley is crucial for future Sunday Streets Berkeley events. Let the Berkeley City Council know you loved Sunday Streets Berkeley and you want it to become a regular event. Financial support – in the form of waived permit fees – reflects the City’s commitment to promoting community cohesion, public health, local business, and Berkeley’s unique values and character. In early December the Berkeley City Council will vote on whether or not to waive Livable Berkeley’s city-related costs and permit fees for Sunday Streets Berkeley. Urge your Council representative, the Council as a whole, and Mayor Tom Bates to support this proposal. http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/IT/Home/Email_List.aspx _______________________________________________ Ebbc-Talk mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ebbc.org/listinfo.cgi/ebbc-talk-ebbc.org
