Searching the Sustrans website for "Fort William" returns the following
appropriate results.
NCR 78 will go from Campbeltown to Oban, Fort William and Inverness when
it is completed.

It sounds as though work will soon be getting underway to convert the
old railway trackbed into a cycleway. I'm sure Sustrans Scotland would
be pleased to let you have further information if you asked them,
they're very approachable.
Fort William - Oban would make an absolutely cracking Saturday away: out on
the sleeper on Friday night, cycle to Oban and then last train back (or
a Sunday trip completely in reverse). You'd need to set a pretty
cracking pace, thoug.
More realistically, it's probably a weekend trip. Lunchtime train out on
Saturday (so as to avoid a dawn start!), overnight in or near a friendly
hostelry, and back by the evening train again.
With regard to your other question about Killin - Crianlarich, I'm not
aware of any progress on that route, although I would have thought that
Sustrans were at least keeping a watchful eye on it..
David.
