I haven't looked in detail at the "layers of resistance" reference above yet. Subsequent postings on that mailing list talk about six layers, then nine-layers.

Regarding the five stages of grief, when I first read Kotters "Leading Change" I remember him giving a list of typical responses to change abd remember the majority of them looking almost exactly the same as the five stages of grief (which anyone whose seen the movie "all that jazz" might also be familiar with).

I've also seen some of the discussion about viewing "change" as "loss" - and if grief is a part of loss then sounds to me like those stages of denial, anger, depression, bargaining, testing would be part of resistance to change too
