I often use "positive intentions" instead.  Even that is hard for 
some people to swallow.

By "positive intention," I mean an intention that you would want 
for yourself, or that you would be happy for another person to 
have, if it could achieved without negative side effects.

For example, I see "believing that I can succeed in this 
business" as a positive intention for me.  The trouble was that I 
had a dysfunctional chain of beliefs about how to achieve my 
positive intention.  By "dysfunctional," I mean that acting from 
those beliefs won't achieve my positive intention, and may lead 
me /away/ from my intention.  Watching the O. J. Simpson trial 
led away from my intentions, reducing my belief that I could 
succeed instead of supporting it.

I believe that every behavior comes from positive intentions, and 
that dysfunctional behaviors come not from bad intentions, but 
from dysfunctional beliefs about how to achieve positive intentions.
