I would suggest looking at a book by Robert Dilts (and NLP "Master") entitled something like "Sleight of Mouth: The Magic of Conversational Belief Change". It describes a lot of specific conversational techniques for getting someone to change their opinion on something which essentially cuts right to the heart of their beliefs that seem to be at the source of their resistance.

If you use the very same techniques on yourself in your own "internal conversation" it can have much the same effect for you for identifying your own limiting beliefs at the source of one's inner resistance.

Also look at Dale's article on "The Value Question" - which is one valueable technique (which is also in "sleight of mouth") to do this very thing.
