I've welded a LOT of holes shut with an arc welder. Often it's dob, dob, cool a bit, dob, dob. It isn't pretty but it works, usually. Cast comes out prettier. :-)

This is actually a hole in a valley in the casting (where water sits when
t rains), and I would have to tack something there. So I am concerned that
elding might bring more stress on the area, than brazing or silver soldering
patch.
And I can see the bead, chip chip, bead approach, although I have not tried
hat method. I'll have to collect some cast iron castaways to practice on.
can always try to destruct them in the hydraulic press. (grin)
