  I can only think of a couple contributing factors. Motor getting stiff and needing cleaned/lubed and since that's durn near impossible (on most cars anyway) replaced. The other might be a filthy cabin air filter so not much air flow and the resistors would overheat.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] 04 tdi blower motor

Hi all;

My 04 TDI (BEW) heater blower motor only works on high speed. IIRC that's
a problem with the resistor, and the diagram in Bentleys makes that look
pretty easy to replace.
Any pitfalls that you would point out to me? Would you suspect problems
with the blower motor too, that maybe resulted in the resistor failure?
I see the resistor online for around $45, and the blower motor for around
$80, so no big deal to replace both if it means no worries for another 230k
miles...
It's a car that my kids mostly drive now, so I can't say for sure how the
blower motor was working before the lower speeds quit.

Thanks!
