Turbo noise

I'm hearing an extra noise in the 2000. As near as I can tell, it kind of sounds like a turbo-related whine. I can't hear it at idle, but there's a distinct whine under load. I had thought it was the intercooler line let ago again, but it's not the usual cheap, easy fix. I've never actually dealt with the turbo before.
