I want to give a quick introduction of myself to this group, it
definitely is in line with my interests, and I am sure I'll enjoy
being a member.

I guess I've been a "border-geek" (I assume this term is nto a
stranger to the list ;) ) for quite a while, I've had an interest in
all things geographical since I was about ten years old. (Currently,
I subscribe to another Yahoo Group dealing with flags, and have a very
large flag collection myself; plus I also maintain a comprehensive
website on national anthems at http://www.national
<http://www.nationalanthems.info> anthems.info , so
you see I come by it honestly. :) ) Unfortunately my travels haven't
taken me too far - I live in Winnipeg, MB, but only have been to
Canada and the US so far. My most interesting "border points" that
I've been to are the following: In 1996 or thereabouts I rode my bike
to the US, but only turned arounda t the duty-free store (reasoning
that it is on American soil. Took my lunch break right on the border,
sat down at the border cairn and ate my lunch right there! In 2001 my
wife and I drove through the town of Lloydminster, which is on the
Alberta-Saskatchewan border. In 2003, I took a detour home from a
trip out to Kenora, Ontario to see the Northwest Angle of Minnesota. 
And, just a few months ago, my sister (who isn't a border geek) bought
a house in Emerson, Manitoba, a town whose southern limits are the
CAUS border. Her house is 261 steps from the border (yes, on my first
visit, I walked the distance), won't say much else about where she
lives to of course protect her identity.

I don't have the money to visit too many other intersting places,
although we are planning a trip this summer to Vancouver and I hope to
see Point Roberts then, makign for another interesting border
excursion. In the meantime, I hope to live vicariously through this list!
