SV: My Two Cents

In the beginning BoundaryPoint was fun and interesting with many discussions
going on every day, including just borders and other geographical stuff,
which I believe we all anyway have an interest in. And many good names and
forces participated.

 

I don’t remember Mike being so “difficult” in the early stages, but I
remember his personal writing style which I (and many others) most of the
time just skipped. This probably was a shame, since I have lots of respect
for his knowledge, research and insight. We told him many times that he
should not make his readers work so hard or even give up in advance. It also
scared new people away. 

 

Then somehow it clicked for Mike, who somehow only is interested in points
(what was he doing on Ellis Island then?), and believed BoundaryPoint was
only for points. All the rest of us with wider interests got pushed around,
and finally – perhaps too late – had to divert all traffic to the new group
BorderPoint. Everybody seemed happy for this strange alternative and
division. At that point I left BoundaryPoint to Mike and his points, and was
happy at Borderpoint. But I also tried to run through all the world
tripoints with Mike at BoundaryPoint not disturbing the people at
BorderPoint.

 

So what do we want with BoundaryPoint? And with Borderpoint? Without Mike in
BoundaryPoint we may as well close it.

 

And why still this childish secrecy with the BoundaryPoint owner? Odd…

 Having watched this group become practically silent the past few months, it
seems obvious to me that the cause is the (presumed) banning of Mike Donner,
the infamous "alathelia kallos."  Mike was a pain in the butt, and his rants
complaining about those who strayed from the purity of multipointing,
combined with weird use/non-use of punctuation and non-capitalization could
get annoying.  BUT, like it or not, he was the one who kept the pot boiling,
and I for one miss his frequent posts on a wide range of topics.  

Does anyone believe this group is better for his absence?  Quieter, yes.
More civil, yes.  More interesting, NO!

My suggestion is to invite Mike back into the group and live with his
eccentricities.  If he gives someone a hard time occasionally for straying
from the path of purity of multipointing, so what?  Let him rant.  Sticks
and stones...... .

Anyone else want to weigh in?
