(Please accept my apology in advance if this message is inappropriate=20
for this group.)

A group I'm involved with is building an ecovillage on an island in=20
southwest British Columbia, Canada. Over the past year, we have=20
established a non-profit Society, created formal finance, ownership,=20
and governance policies, produced fundraising events, involved local=20
land use planning agencies, and performed a great deal of research and=20
brainstorming.

Now we have identified a wonderful southwest sloping parcel that should=20
support between ten to thirty families. The 30 hectare site has a mix=20
of rich valley bottom cleared farmland, recent clearcut, young=20
re-growth, and a few older trees, and rises about 100 meters. Two=20
immediate neighbors are organic farmers. There is a year-round creek=20
crossing two corners of the site, with seven acre-feet of water rights=20
and microhydro potential, with a head of about 40 meters. The immediate=20
neighbors, local populace and regulatory bodies are in touch and are=20
generally supportive of our efforts.

Our members have strengths in permaculture, alternative energy, healing=20
arts, arts and crafts, engineering, finance, grant writing, and=20
organizing.

At this point, we need a few more individuals who want to take part AND=20
can can make a significant financial contribution, on the order of=20
about half the value of the average North American suburban home. Our=20
goal is to be entirely self-financed by people who will have a long=20
term commitment to the village. Being an initial financier will entitle=20
one to lifetime residence on the site, which will be formally held by=20
the non-profit organization.

(Sorry, we have PLENTY of people who are interested in "sweat equity"=20
situations -- we need to secure the land first!)

So if you are dreaming of escaping suburbia or the city for a=20
sustainable, rural life-style, are realistic about the work involved,=20
are interested in community building and strong social ties with your=20
co-villagers, and have a bit of a nest-egg set aside for such a thing,=20
contact me privately for details. Please include full contact=20
information and a few words about what you would bring (besides money)=20
to such a project.

Thanks!
