Add some slippery elm syrup to help ease the passing. It does need to get passed or it can cause very serious problems and need surgical removal. SO they need to check for it.
* Slippery elm syrup: Sprinkle 1 teasp slippery elm bark powder onto
half a cup of water. Heat with stirring till nearly boiling, and keep
the thickened syrup in the fridge. Dose 1 or 2 ml about 20 minutes
before any main meal. It coats and soothes the intestines and has a few
good nutrients. It works well in cats. (Not all herbs do.)
[When looking for the herb powder (or capsules to use emptied out) look
for the grey/green colour powder, as it gels well - the red/orange does
not form syrup properly.]
If it is not passed in under 24 hrs, I'd try Milk of Magnesia (MOM) to encourage it, but one must be VERY careful of the dose:
*not* to overdose (and cause cramping and twisitng of the intestines etc).
It also needs to be PLAIN MOM, with magnesium hydroxide and NO other ingredients besides water -
Dose is based on weight and must be carefully calculated.
But first dilute it one in ten, AFTER shaking the bottle to mix well.
Not knowing the weight of the kitten or brand of MOM I can not give the calculation with certainty....
SO here is an example - needs to be compared with the actual bottle strength and dose:
EXAMPLE: Western Family MOM has 1200mg magnesium hydroxide in 1 tablespoon (15 ml)
Other ingredients: Purified water.
Dilute 1.5 ml MOM plus 13.5 ml water = 15 ml diluted MOM.
(or use 15 ml MOM diluted in 150ml water)
Use 1 ml of this diluted MOM per POUND of kitten.
SO if kitten is half a pound use half a ml diluted MOM as a dose. Measure carefully.
If kitten is 2 pounds use 2 ml of diluted MOM.
Dose twice eight hours apart.
MOM is only for emergency use in kittens/cats - not a good ting to use in cats in general as it is antacid and makes digestion of protein hard to do as that needs acid and the feline metabolism needs to be acid.
But this IS an emergency.
Namaste,
Irene
