AU domain administrator issues fresh warning
auDA has issued another consumer alert about a deceptive
mail-out to Australian domain name holders by Domain Names
Australia, possibly breaching undertakings given to the
Federal Court.

Major changes are being proposed to the way in which new
Second Level Domains are created within .uk, following a
comprehensive review of the original policy and procedures
by Nominet UK. It is proposed that an independent
secretariat and panel of experts should be set up to review
all future applications, which will be open to competitive
tender and subject to two rounds of public consultation -
whoever makes the initial application.  Other changes
include the more detailed criteria against which
applications will be assessed and the introduction of
cost-recovery fees for applicants.

Ruling The Net
Members of the Domain Justice Coalition filed a lawsuit
today requesting a temporary restraining order and other
relief against ICANN to block the implementation of a
domain name Wait Listing Service (WLS). The WLS was
proposed by VeriSign, Inc. (pdf) and approved by ICANN in
federal court in Los Angeles. The suit challenges ICANN's
failure to comply with its internal decision-making process
requirements when it approved implementation of the WLS in
the face of opposition from domain name registrars,
resellers and consumers.
