For comparison purposes, you might be interested in the “Who talks TCP?” surveys taken by David Smallberg during the December 1982 to February 1983 time period, during which the NCP to TCP/IP flag day took place.  RFC 847 is a summary of those surveys.  Unfortunately, they don’t mention Ethernet specifically.
