This topic has come up on this list before; Brian Carpenter noted the use of ‘router’ in the 1979 PARC PUP internetwork architecture paper. [1] Some early 1980s Unix routed code and configuration information indicates it is based on XNS, and also has some mentions of ‘router’. [2] [3] [4]
