The Wikipedia project,

	http://www.wikipedia.org/

- an openly editable and freely distributable encyclopaedia, has
surpassed 50,000 articles today. I know there are quite a few
journalists on this list, so I encourage you to take a look at this very
interesting project and give it some publicity. Although many articles
are definitely not encyclopaedia-quality yet, many others are, and the
general tendency seems to be positive. Furthermore, on controversial
subjects you'll find a lot broader perspectives than in mainstream
publications, e.g.:

	http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Americanism
	http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Globalization_Movement
	http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/COINTELPRO

The Wikipedia team has also done a great job in internationalizing the
project. Many non-English Wikipedias are very active and already have
thousands of articles (especially the German one and, fascinatingly, the
Esperanto "Vikipedia").

The project, formerly intended as a commercial endeavor, is now moving
into the non-profit direction (hence the .org). In my opinion, it's one
of the most exciting collaborative projects today.

Regards,

Erik

Patriotism is an ephemeral motive that scarcely ever outlasts
the particular threat to society that aroused it.
