The Wikipedia project, http://www.wikipedia.org/ - an openly editable and freely distributable encyclopaedia, has surpassed 50,000 articles today. I know there are quite a few journalists on this list, so I encourage you to take a look at this very interesting project and give it some publicity. Although many articles are definitely not encyclopaedia-quality yet, many others are, and the general tendency seems to be positive. Furthermore, on controversial subjects you'll find a lot broader perspectives than in mainstream publications, e.g.: http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Americanism http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Globalization_Movement http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/COINTELPRO The Wikipedia team has also done a great job in internationalizing the project. Many non-English Wikipedias are very active and already have thousands of articles (especially the German one and, fascinatingly, the Esperanto "Vikipedia"). The project, formerly intended as a commercial endeavor, is now moving into the non-profit direction (hence the .org). In my opinion, it's one of the most exciting collaborative projects today.
