In Time Magazine July 29, 2013, there is a long article about
the advantages of knowing more than one language, and
schools that are teaching other languages to young children.

is proving to be a more flexible, more resourceful one. In
a polyglot world, that's a lesson that a largely monoglot
country like the U.S. ignores at its peril. "Monolingualism,"
says Gregg Roberts, a language-immersion specialist with
the Utah state office of education, "is the illiteracy of the
21st century." "

I believe this is a great occasion to tell them that Esperanto
can fill the necessity in much less time, and also will help to
learn other languages.
