          Eighteenth-century English lexicographer Samuel Johnson declar=
ed =E2=80=9Ccommove=E2=80=9D as being =E2=80=9Cnot in use,=E2=80=9D but =
the word had not really disappeared from the language; it was simply, at=
 that time, popular primarily with Scottish writers. The 14th-century po=
et Geoffrey Chaucer is credited with the first use of =E2=80=9Ccommove,=E2=
=80=9D and many writers since have used the word, including Sir Walter S=
cott and George Eliot. Though not so common today, =E2=80=9Ccommove=E2=80=
=9D does occasionally pop up (to the chagrin of Johnsonians). =E2=80=9CM=
arket values tend to commove over time,=E2=80=9D read one such recent ex=
