Good Standing

Just a little info on certificates of good standing and the 
cost thereof.

I just completed a transaction wherein I had to supply 
both a Maryland and a Pennsylvania certificate of good 
standing.  The costs involved were as follows:

Maryland charged $40.00.  I went onto the State's 
website, charged the $40.00 on my credit card, and 
downloaded the CofGS in pdf format.  I then emailed a 
copy to all concerned.  Total cost:  $40.00, plus a 
nominal amount of time.

Pennsylvania charged $40.00.  I had to send a letter to 
a service bureau in PA, draw and mail a check to the 
service bureau for their services (about $20.00), pay for 
FedEx back to me (another $15.00), scan the 
document, email the pdf version thus obtained to all 
concerned, and then mail the original to lender's 
counsel.  Total cost:  $75.00, plus a good deal of time 
spent in spinning wheels (just think only of the pain of 
getting the check cut in any law firm).

If you needed to be convinced of the efficiencies of 
e-commerce (and I doubt that anyone on this list does), 
just consider the facts I just related.
