I've created a medical records CD on a business card size CD-
Rom. In addition to basic medical records, I've included copies of
my driver's license, medical insurance card, birth certificate, social
security card, living will (advance medical directive), power of
attorney effective upon disability, persons to contact in the event of
an emergency, etc.

In discussing the card with my friend, a CPA, he noted that a theft of
my wallet would now enable the thief to completely and totally steal
my identity. The wisdom in his comments is apparent.

I think that the answer is to put certain sensitive information (e.g.,
the social security card, driver's license, etc.) in a password
protected subdirectory and to delete the SS number from all
documents on the "main" directory. All of the persons on the
emergency contact list would have the password and the table of
contents would have a brief paragraph instructing anyone reading it
how to obtain the password (i.e., by contacting any of these
individuals, proving that he is not a thief, etc.).

Query: Does anyone know how to password protect a subdirectory
on a CD-Rom?
