This annoying problem has caused me to eliminate or restrict comments on all
but the least popular blogs I operate.  The more popular a blog, it seems
the more spam it attracts.

Kevin O'Keefe advises me that Movable Type 3.0 has anti-spam features, but I
haven't tried it yet.

In a sense, the popularity of blog spam is a perverse tribute to the
effectiveness of blogs.  My sense is that comment spammers are not trying so
much to attract readers directly as to boost the search engine rankings of
their sites.
