Re: Comment Spam at Network-Lawyers Wiki Collaboration Platform

Bear with me on this as my technical knowledge of computers and software
is deficient to say the least, but is it possible in the software being
used to reset it back to a point in time known to be before the spaming
occured.  If not it may be wise to periodically record and archive
privately the entire content.  When a spam attack occurs, then it may be
easier to go back and reinstall a prior version despite the loss of some
valid revisions after that time along with the spam.  Hence when the spam
makes a tremendous editing undertaking, this would provide an easy and
quick alternative.  My apologies if this is flawed thinking or just not
feasible.  By the way, you have extensive sympathy from me in this matter.
Although quite a different matter, but no less distressing, just days over
a year ago, I lost the entire NetGold discussion group of over 2000
messages and over 200 members that Yahoo Groups wiped out one Wednesday in
late May 2004.  Fortunately, I have most of the posts archived and have
added them to the two Temple University Listserv archives for Net-Gold and
continue to do so when time permits and now more recently to a Google
Groups Net-Gold archive as well.  I have heard of a number of other
discussion group moderators on Yahoo Groups who also have had the same
experience.  In many ways, the internet is a knowledge du jour environment
and writing and storing in this medium is kind of like taking notes in
quick sand.  Our internet sand castles do not have wave or flood
insurance.
