Alumnus of Colorado College teaches creative writing at Online Writing Scho=
ol, LONG STORY SHORT SCHOOL OF WRITING.

OTTAWA ONTARIO CANADA: The school board of Long Story Short School of Writi=
ng has named Jamieson Wolf Villeneuve as instructor of an online course tit=
led =93The Muse.=94=20

The school, just one semester old, was the offspring of an online writer=92=
s magazine, Long Story Short, which publishes a wide variety of short ficti=
on, non-fiction and poetry each month. Their goal is to showcase, promote a=
nd advance the work of writers worldwide. See the website at http://www.alo=

Long Story Short School of Writing offers a plethora of online writing clas=
ses held on an interactive message board where the instructor and students =
post their assignments and then comment and critique one another=92s work. =

 This class endeavors to teach about finding the inspiration to write and h=
ow to write once you pick up a pen.=20

THE MUSE=20

Instructor:  Jamieson Wolf Villeneuve

The MUSE can come from anywhere. In olden days, it was believed that Muses =
resided inside us and around us. Gods that would bestow gifts to normal mor=
tals so that they would produce pieces of work or song. Just as Gods could =
be mischievous, they could also bestow helpful gifts. It was a Muses job to=
 inspire, to get that kernel of an idea stuck in a mortal=92s head.=20

After all, that small kernel could turn out to be a grand, epic novel or a =
beautiful piece of music. The Muse will focus on that inspiration and hopef=
ully help people who want to write put that pencil to the paper (or key to =
the keyboard).=20


Each class will focus on a different style of writing.=20


Class One: Finding the Inspiration to Write



The first class will focus on the impulse of writing. Students will write a=
 piece after working out where the inspiration for writing comes from for t=
hem. I will ask students to go and listen to a conversation and produce a s=
mall short story inspired from that conversation.=20





Class Two: Time and History form our Past



The second session will focus on the past and it=92s inspirational factors.=
 Time, place, setting, mood. These are all important elements in writing. T=
he students will produce a story in the form of a written letter to someone=
 from the past.





Class Three: He has a lot of Character



The third class will take a look at the beginning of writing a short story =
and it=92s important elements: Character, Place, Setting and Time. I will h=
ave the student=92s think of three characters and have me write bios for th=
em. Then I will have them think of a setting for the story.=20





Class Four: The Plot Thickens



The fourth class will focus on the other element of a story: Plot. Now I wi=
ll have the students write a short story using the characters they have cre=
ated. They will have to focus on plot and having the characters interact wi=
th each other.=20





Class Five: Poetry is Words in Motion



The fifth class will focus on different types of poetry: Haiku, Prose and A=
bstract. Students will learn a bit about each form of poetry and then try t=
heir hand at writing their own poetry creations.=20





Class Six: Even when it=92s not Fiction, there is a Story



The sixth class will focus on article and column writing. I will talk a bit=
 about the differences between articles (news items and factual recounting)=
 and columns (prose of a more personal nature). I will then have the studen=
ts choose to write either a column or an article on something that inspires=
 them.=20



The sixth class will also have an afterward on how to start a writing caree=
r over the internet.=20
