Greg Newby and Maitri Venkat-Ramani have approved the method of
transcription in itrans to allow for later conversion to Devanagiri.
We prefer to keep our texts in simple ASCII format and give ourr eaders
the option of converting them to .pdf, image format, etc.

The following are copyright-free:
1. A rendering of the original content (word-of-mouth, palm leaf,
common knowledge) placed specifically in the public domain.
2. A pre-1923 edition which one transribes and places in the public
domain.

No, any existing etext in itrans format is not copyright-free unless
the author explicitly makes it so.  Additionally, before publication,
Project Gutenberg asks permission and checks copyright on every text
that passes through our system.
