Are the current mobi at PG in KF8 format? (not only the current ones,
also the legacy ones) If so, is the PG epub in KF8 equivalent to PG
epub, or equivalent to the old dumbed-down mobi?

And even if this is true, many PG kindle users might remember that PG
mobi was inferior to PG epub.

In any case, PG users and PG books are a different universe than
amazon customers and amazon books, so completely different statistics
are to be expected.
