Well correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the intrusive numbers in #27761
which make it difficult to read are to frequent chapter endnotes intended to
explain the meanings of Shakespearean words.

 

If the design and use of html margins were correct in this text, then the
endnotes could be moved out of the text by doing a float.  But with the
current use of margins in this text, sometimes the floats "work," sometimes
they don't.
