True story time...interesting one. A friend of mine is in the midst of
trying to sell a first book. She actually CO-wrote the book with a
well-known author (not saying who and screwing up the deal, of
course), but they are shopping it as her book alone. Why would they
leave the established name off of it? Because the well-known gent is
firmly of the belief that a breakout first novel from a young
up-and-coming will get a higher advance than it would if it was known
that it was co-written with him...and (my understanding of their
logic) higher than he expects to get alone. I don't understand the
logic behind that, unless he has diminishing returns, but... As I
said, interesting, in light of the topic of the day.
