Jon, I also agree with Brenna. As a newbie to this list, I rarely participate in discussions, preferring to read and learn. And I have learned-- a lot. I would not have joined this list if it had been hosted on a forum-type web based board. I far and away prefer this format. I don't believe you can draw any firm inferences about the sharp drop in postings. People come and go on lists all the time, and it may be that the current crop are less discursive than the previous ones. But the membership as a whole remains strong, knowledgeable and helpful, and to me that is the main indicator that this is a very successful list. As the published author of one, count 'em, one ebook, I need all the advice and knowledge I can lay my hands on. This list is relevant and interesting just as it is.
