If he did, he did. And, despite your comments, it's not blacklisting.
Blacklisting would be if he then proceeded to make certain no other
publisher would touch you, either. Even if someone tried it, I highly
doubt it would work. Why? Because the publishers aren't that weak, and
neither are the authors. Getting an agreement on anything, even what
we'll ultimately vote on, is like herding cats. I hardly believe the
word of one person would carry that much weight. And, from what you're
saying, he never said he was blacklisting you. He said you'd never
work for him, if you're paraphrasing him correctly.

It would simply mean that he doesn't think he can work with you
professionally. Why? Perhaps because he already has an adversarial
relationship with you, and the last thing he needs is dealing with
someone he has a bad relationship with. I can't say, because I'm not
him. Asking people to tar and feather him in this venue certainly
doesn't help much.

EPIC does not exert control over their members. They are not children
that I expect to have to shepherd through their lives. Nor could I
expect them to follow everything I say. Oh, the horror of that. Who
would want it?

Based on a VERY old experience with EPIC. Not so true anymore, IMO.
I've taken every opportunity I can to even the playing field,
including refusing to bring in an agent for EPICon 2007 that was a
romance agent only. I forced the issue and made sure the one who came
in did other genres. In fact, she didn't even handle more than
sweet/'YA romance herself. She took pitches for romance only to pass
along to one of her associates. The agent, BTW, handles a lot of
SF/F/H.

Which is also thankfully changing. At least they have an established
group for indie/e, and many chapters are actively supportive of e-book
authors these days. Even their newest standards for "recognition"
allow e-publishers to be recognized en masse.

A) Dan does not decide what goes in it. EPIC made a policy that Dan
follows. That policy was created when Dan told us that adding author
by author was just too slow and painful a way to get books onto the
store. That policy says that all books of publishers represented
within EPIC (by a publisher or by an author with the publisher) will
be placed in the book store, upon request. Simple. Nothing wrong with
that, and it's not within Dan's power to refuse to add them. If
someone from your publisher requested the books be added, your books
would show there too, unless you decided to ask me to have them
removed. Considering your opinion of EPIC, I would be all too happy to
have Dan unclick you.

B) This has nothing to do with free speech. You're attempting to make
it a free speech issue. But, whether or not your books show in the
EPIC bookstore has nothing to do with whatever comment you made about
EPIC and everything to do with how the books were added.
