Chris, I think you're not in the target demographic.  The MacBook Air
is a style accessory, aimed at people who almost certainly already
have a computer to use the optical drive from (though I expect various
trendy coffeehouses will install optical drives just to attract
MacBook Air users).  And it's still a very nice computer, running some
very nice software, despite deficiencies compared to, say, the
top-of-the-line MacBook.

I heard one person describe it as a laptop aimed at people who sell,
and are well paid for, air.
