With more than 100 aspiring writers and publishers now registered for the seminars being held in conjunction with the Spring Book Show in Atlanta March 28-29, no sooner had we moved to larger classrooms at the Georgia World Congress Center than the facility was hit by a tornado. We still plan to hold the seminars in Rooms B401 and B402 at the GWCC and are told repairs shold be completed by March 28. In the event that the tornado damage suffered on March 14 is not repaired by March 28, the seminars will be moved to the downtown Atlanta Hilton.

Hall B of the Georgia World Congress Center remains the scheduled location for Spring Book Show 2008, now the largest bargain book show in the nation. The Atlanta Hilton is the backup location for the show. Seminar attendees get free admission to the three-day Spring Book Show - admission is $50 for others. Vendors at the show will be offering more than 50,000 titles to buyers from around the world.

A brief summary:

Seminar 1: "Writing, Editing, Publishing and Marketing Your Book." Two days of instruction designed to familiarize you with the latest information on writing and selling your book. More than a dozen presenters include Ed Nawotka, southern correspondent, Publishers Weekly, and book columnist, Bloomberg News; Ahmad Meradji, CEO, Apex Book Manufacturing (short-run four-color digital book manufacturer); Chris Staros, award-winning graphic novels publisher; and John Shableski, Diamond Book Distributors.

Seminar 2: "How To Prepare Your Book for the Market: Writing a Killer Proposal and Editing the Manuscript for Maximum Marketability." Learn what it takes to prepare a book proposal and edit your manuscript to increase your odds of success. Instructors are Patricia Fry, executive director, Small Publishers, Artists and Writers Network (SPAWN), author of more than 25 books on writing and publishing, including the latest books on proposal writing, and award-winning book doctor Bobbie Christmas. Conferees who have a draft proposal get it critiqued by Patricia Fry.

Seminar 3: "Earning a Comfortable Living through Freelance Writing and Self-Publishing." Full day of intensive instruction by Peter Bowerman, author of the best-selling “Well-Fed Writer” and “Well-Fed Self-Publisher” books, and Angela Durden, children’s book author and business consultant.
