Re: Fees for extraordinary expenses

LOL!  That's one of the reasons we're doing like we're doing it.  Might 
not be the so-called preferred or traditional way, and we do lose 
potential authors, but I feel that the author and the publisher are 
playing lottery with novels.  They have limited shelf-life and lower 
long-term resale value than nonfiction works, which makes them a much 
higher risk.  At the same time, a major eBooks' saving grace is that 
they have unlimited availability (especially with POD.)

My uncle's first work (to be released in July) is a 
geographically-limited novel (Oklahoma).  I think it's a good book, 
tells a good yarn, but its marketability is limited because it's written 
in "Okie."  I've tried to convince him to add a glossary, as foreigners 
may like the story more than locals if they had definitions of the 
not-exactly-English terms used, but he has refused.  He told me that if 
people couldn't understand the terms, then they didn't need to read the 
book.  It's his book, and his loss of revenue, but....
