Given his credentials and background, I think he knows what 
material he can draw on and what he can't. There's a lot of 
government funded research and government online sites on medical 
conditions that could be drawn on. Medical conditions and 
government statistics are two of the areas where there are lots 
of usable material.

And, he as the author has agreed that if you a reasonably good 
Internet user, many of these books likely aren't for you. He 
points out that there are still some people who would rather have 
someone else do the searching, and just read the results.

One assumes that you have to be at least capable enough to find 
Amazon, though.

It will actually be far more interesting to see if he can get any 
traction in the romance market. Personally, I would doubt it, but 
that has to be qualified by my acknowledged lack of a deep 
understanding of that market.

However - if he really can lower the cost of creation, he is 
ideally suited to ebooks, where the low cost of distribution 
makes much more sense. He might be able to actually sell a $2 
ebook romance and make money on it. And if its only half as good 
as a $5 book, then he might even get some significant sales.
