I think the "Kindle-killer" will be like the "iPod-killer." It will be
a big uphill battle, and having a $100 eInk device will not undermine
the Kindle's success. If anything, it will simply be another aspect of
the rising tide that lifts all the boats.

People don't want DRM-free readers. People want DRM-free BOOKS. If the
reader is DRM-free, that just means we can read all the books that are
already DRM-free, all books that we could read before plopping down a
chunk of change on a dedicated device. There's nothing preventing me
from using my Kindle (or Sony, or eBookwise, or PDA) without the DRM
aspect of it, after all. The key will be having the reader that can
work with multiple types of DRM book formats.
