Thanks for the useful measures of values to the customer, and I
broadly agree with the other comments I have cut.
However I think there are two ebooks here. The one you describe
and the 'pbook experience'.
Many people on this list are quite emphatic about their need for
a text file, and that gets no argument from me. But I think one
of the reasons that the pfd is the most popular digital file for
books and reports is because the content is formatted and is made
attractive to read.
So, as you say, Aaron or any other publisher will find you
interested in only a text file, and can no doubt supply that
within your price frame - though the author and editor are both
dependent on the sales values. But most people seem to like -
or be conditioned to - the traditional designed layouts.
For this they will pay for a 'proper book' and I am sure that is
the first step in the popularising of digital reading. Look at
the sites which concentrate on the ebook and name one that does
not use designed covers to attract attention ;-).
