>>I think epublishers are offering things paper publishers aren't, maybe
not on a deep literary basis but a pragmatic one. E-publishers
allowed the female readership for erotica to grow exponentially by
allowing anonymous online purchase, the growth of small presses
catering to their particular needs in that genre and a way to store
books so the inquisive toddler will never find them--not to mention a
way for a lot of stay-at-home moms to make extra income writing erotic
romance. This is a genre that was pioneered by epublishers and is
still better supplied on line than in store.<<

Emily,

You get a round of agreement from me. Although I'm new to e-erotic, my short stories have seen traditional print for a good decade. I waited for the erotic novel to return to print after the collapse of Masquerade Books in the late 90s, but it never did. Erotica went the electronic route instead. I finally took the dive after seeing the Kindle and Sony Reader hits the market.

I particularly agree with your comment about on-line variety over print variety. It's far more expansive on-line and reminds me of the late 60s and 1970s when adult bookstores were flush with naughty paperbacks.

The only downside for me comes when I'm reading in public and people ask about my Sony Reader. I've become pretty practiced at backing out of an erotic novel and switching to another genre for show-and-tell purposes!
