Books and music aren't the same.  e-Books have to compete with a
well-engineered familiar zero-cost alternative, the printed version of
the book, usually available for the same price as the ebook.  Free
reader included with every copy!

So, let's say you find people willing to buy a hard-cover version for
$25.  You now have to figure out a way of selling them both the e-book
and the e-reader for that same $25.  Sell the book for $15 and the
reader for $10?  Sell a reader good for 20 books for $400, and sell
the 20 books for $5 each?  Which way to go?  And, what's the average
MTTF, in books read, of one of these e-readers?  The public doesn't
know -- heck, I don't know -- and they're going to guess low.
