That is not my experience. A main reason for using an ebook is that you can alter the font.
The readers I have seen on iLiad, fbreader on several systems and palm reader can alter
the font. (and I think all on a PC can) Albeit for the palm not that much. I suspect all the
newer readers allow font resizing
I would note that as per previous comments pdfs do not necessarily resize well whilst
HTML based documents are designed to do that
