In my book, pardon the expression, the most important factor that has been 
unleashed by books in electronic format on the internet is the ability to 
create databases of their full text content and search them in the same 
way that journal aggregations have been full text searchable for 
considerably longer.  Google Books is the most known and perhaps the 
largest such database, but fee based databases of full text books and 
other free aggregations of full text and searchable book aggregations are 
springing up in growing numbers and featuring a wide range of purviews.
