Another option is adding a watermark to the book if piracy concerns you so much. Something like, This book was originally sold to Joe Smith or From the digital library of Susie Jones. It will show up on every page of the document. At the very least, you can track who may have been responsible for file sharing, if it occurs. And, as Emily said, most file sharing sites will usually cooperate with a cease and desist letter. Believe it or not, most people are honest enough to understand getting something you havent paid for is stealing and wont do it. However, for the small percentage that dont have such moral scruples, digital watermarking will at least help you track them down without having to resort to more onerous forms of DRM. Aaron J. And there is not much you can do to stop an ebook from acting like a file at this level, being duplicatible, emailable etc. I would suggest not being to heavy with the DRM. As a reader and reviewer I want to have ebooks where the text can be manipulated so I can, for example, change the font, do a word count, search for phrases, and cut out a short excerpt to put it in my review. Files with passwords and disabled functions general annoy me as a customer. As an author I just assert my copyright whenever trouble comes up. Most filesharing sites respond to a cease and desist email. Internal Virus Database is out of date.
