Precisely.

Everyone to accepts DRM _thinks_ they've weighed the pros and cons  
and given informed consent. But sooner or later everyone is saying "I  
never expected to have this problem..."

My Rocket eBook is dying, but, no problem, I can always just upgrade  
to a newer model. No, wait, I can't, there aren't any newer models  
and never will be. But, no problem, I can probably find one on eBay  
or something. But, wait, all my content is encrypted and tied to the  
serial number of the device that's buying. But, no problem, Nuvomedia  
told me that I could always just re-download from their servers to  
the new device. No, wait, I can't, the servers have all long since  
been shut down.

I never expected to have this problem.

Notice that Chris, too, has made the unexamined assumption that his  
paid-for books that he can't read any more will continue indefinitely  
"to be downloadable from the eReader website."

Anyone want to make a bet as to which will last longer: a print-on- 
paper book, or the eReader website?

Everyone starts out thinking that DRM crackers are wicked people  
trying to steal content, and everyone ends up looking for DRM cracks  
to protect their legitimate rights as consumers.

TWO music sites that sold customers DRM-protected content have now  
folded and have announced they'll be shutting down their DRM servers,  
thus denying customers access to the content they understood to be a  
purchase, not a rental. Their response? Recommend that their  
customers violate the DMCA by burning their content to CD then re- 
RIPping.
