Calibre Ebook Management Software (was Financial Times speculates on death of the Sony Reader)

Hi all,

I am going to start a new thread on this to make it easily searchable, 
and talk up this program, Calibre, which is free to download and open 
source.  Kovid Goyal wrote the code, and updates it frequently.  It is 
available for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.  For people 
like me, who were very unhappy with the quality of the software that is 
supplied with the Sony Reader, it is an absolute godsend.  Don't get me 
wrong, the Reader itself is excellent, but I wish they had put a little 
bit more care into the accompanying user interface. 

Calibre is easy, intuitive, allows you to edit the meta information for 
the book, and even includes a utility for converting other file formats 
to Sony's .LRF.   It also has one of those  cool cover flow things like 
Itunes.

In answer to your comment, Elizabeth, no scripting is necessary to run 
Calibre.  The details are included for those who wish to modify the 
program in some way.  My download, admittedly for Windows and not Mac, 
ran perfectly, and continues to do so, through several updates.

This interface is far superior to the one included with the Sony reader, 
and unless you buy everything you read from the Sony Connect store, it 
is definitely worth trying.  If you download Calibre and use it, pleas 
make sure to give Kovid Goyal a donation, as he works very hard to keep 
the program updates and bug-free.
