I am the eBook developer behind http://kindleformatting.com. I was the first
person to offer Kindle book formatting services, and I take great pride in
the quality of my work. As Aaron mentioned, anyone can format their books
for the Kindle given time and persevenance. I even offer some helpful hints
and suggestions on my website on the Formatting

FAQ <http://kindleformatting.com/faq.php> pages. If you are comfortable
using a tool like Mobipocket, I suggest you go with that option.

However, there are also some benefits to using a service like mine. First,
converting a book takes me a lot less time than it typically takes someone
not familiar with the process. I have been developing eBooks since 2002, so
I know lots of tricks and automated ways to get the job done. That can be
helpful for someone on a deadline or someone who just wants to get the
project finished and does not have the time to invest in learning the
process. Second, the quality of my work can be better than what a typical
author or publisher can get on their own, even when using tools. This is
especially true for non-fiction books that have a lot of images, charts,
indexes, footnotes or other specialized formatting requirements.

Again, if you feel comfortable doing the conversion yourself, jump right in
and enjoy the process. Some authors just don't want to hassle with it, and
that is why I offer my services.
