This is a better thing to do than chain emails. 

My best site to get ebooks is:

http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/world/search

Since they have been producing html files in addition to text, life has been good. Until they zip up the audio files, I won't be getting those. Anyway, I've been reading too long. One person audio files aren't as much fun as reading.

My best site to understand what it is that I am getting is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Search

Looking up the author usually gives a good background for the books and worthwhile suggestions for other things to read. 

The site I turn to when Gutenberg doesn't have it:

http://books.google.com/advanced_book_search

This usually gets me a pdf file at least (and usually at most). Because the presentation of the list of 'hits' is unorganized by date or author or title, it is tough to work with. Usually I actually look up the book in the following before google:

http://www.archive.org/advancedsearch.php

That's because it has djvu and ocr text, which is smaller than pdf and more flexible as text. However, with the recent improvements to books.google, habits will likely change.
