Gosh, yes -- the chance of hiring ebooks for as long as the lawyers 
choose to let me (or until I drop the device), AND at an inflated price:

What's not to like?

Seriously, I just bought a second-hand Pocket PC (with wireless!) on 
eBay  for a quarter of the cost of a Kindle, installed MobiPocket, and 
siphoned enough free books from Gutenberg and Gutenberg Australia to 
keep me reading for at least five years. Who needs a Kindle?

And dropping IS a problem. If a device is good enough to carry around 
and use all the time, then it will get dropped, scratched and ultimately 
broken. I've learn that from my other PDAs. In fact the better a device 
is, the shorter its lifespan; and for me the Kindle price point doesn't 
reflect that yet.

I was burnt once with the Franklin eBookMan -- never again!
