ebook ISBNs

Until recently, searching for ebooks using an ISBN via Google or MSN turned up nothing.

Now it will show info based on whether that ISBN has been included in a page's content; that is, searching on an ISBN will show you where your title is being sold (or pirated, in some cases).

This is not due to any effort on Bowker's part to make ebook ISBNs useful.
In fact -- regarding ebooks -- it seems to me Bowker is just selling numbers which it has no intention of supporting to any usual degree.

I put ISBNs on my ebooks primarily because I was conned into buying a hundred of them some years ago and refuse to waste them by not using them.

Does anyone else have comments regarding the use of ISBNs on ebooks?
