Can I just add this: in colloquial terms and in moral terms 'theft' is an excellent description of people taking what does not belong to them without permission. In legal terms there are said to be three or four coutries in which copyright is handled under criminal law - there it is theft legally; but since it normally comes under civil law it is legally breach of contract.

However, the nature of the attitudes to the rule of law itself is leading to to stronger laws over copyright, which will move copyright infringements into the criminal area.
