LSI (stands for Lightning Source Inc) is the premier PRINTING company  
for POD, because it's owned by Ingram.

Printing through LSI allows you to get your book into Ingram (and  
maybe Spring Arbor -- it's the same firm, I think) when you would  
otherwise have to use a distributor.

There are good points and bad to using them, or to going offset, and  
selling through a distributor.

NB: using a POD printer is an entirely different animal than using a  
so-called self-publishing company/POD publisher. You must buy your own  
ISBN block (that's a good thing), and do or get done your own design,  
formatting, and such-like. But it's also possible to get much better  
quality, and to move up to offset, if the book shows promise.

This group may not be the best source of information on the print  
publishing issues. For that, you might want something more like the  
Yahoo Group Self-Publishing. Or one of the other large publishing  
listservs.
