[This extraordinary short essay by Stephen J. Gertz discusses the different natures of the p and e book, and suggests why both have a considerable future. Full of some great phrasing and common sense. A side issue thought that occurred to me while reading it is that the advances in e-reader design and capability will demand the continuing services of all the support professions built for the paper book.]

E-publishing Consultant Mike Shatzkin Doesn't Understand Books

The printed book I buy today will be as readable in 100 years from now as it is today. I will not be required to constantly buy upgrades in software or hardware to maintain its usefulness.
The text and delivery system of a printed book are one and the same. E-books require a separate device to read them.
