Only because NY conglomerate is stupid enough to accept this system, which
is what I said, in the first place. Indie doesn't have this problem. We sell
in English language, worldwide, from day one and in translations as soon as
we wish to offer them. NY could CHOOSE to move to such a system, but they
are too busy fighting change. Their fault. And, I'm done wasting time on
this discussion. If this was a system everyone HAD to accept, everyone would
be shackled by it. It's time for conglomerate to stop shackling itself. They
choose to accept the shackles.

Brenna,

Individual country, region and continent rights, both in same language and translation, have been features of publishing round the world for centuries. I have been interested to note that it is being applied to some ebooks. Why you think it stupid I don't know. Different situations have differnt business models. 

Indies do adopt the universal model mostly, but this is about sales and marketing needs and models. Large organisations, or those with sophisticated marketing and targetting, may well benefit more from a restrictive approach. 

I do think here you are guilty of trying to apply specific sector techniques to the wider industry. All of us must remember that our own experience will not be common to all.
